The Problem with Insecure Email
Current e-mail solutions, though widely-used, are in fact open to a range of abuse and breaches of security, including interception and unauthorised viewing of e-mails and attachments, sniffing and “phishing”.
Increasingly data privacy regulations – such as the Data Protection Act (DPA) in the UK – put the onus on holders of personal information, whenever it is stored or transmitted in various forms, to ensure that is adequately protected from unauthorised access. Existing e-mail systems often present significant security issues and potential privacy violations, since e-mails sent using these mechanisms can be intercepted and read by a third party.
Mailock is a multi-level solution for secure email, involving email encryption and advanced identity authentication technology.
Multiple technical implementations can be supported by Mailock – and we work with you to ensure you have the right one for your company, for your security standards, and for your target audience.
You may choose to outsource your entire secure e-mail service to Mailock, or it may be better to have a “Mailock gateway” installed at your own data centre, and link it to your current e-mail servers. In either option, you can define the “security policies” that will apply to your outbound e-mails – for example “encrypt all”; or “encrypt when subject is confidential”; or “encrypt when sending from Department XYZ”.
Some users may benefit from have a Mailock software “client” loaded on to their PC – this allows them to generate and read e-mails securely when on the move, for example.
“Occasional” or “low volume” users would be best served by the “no install” solution – e-mails are decrypted by Mailock and presented to the users (over secure data links, of course) in a web browser.
